R2005FW Week 10: Chilly Bombers 4, Thursday Morning Glow 3

Chilly Bombers feature the Don & Ron show and jump out to a commanding 4-1 lead, then hold off Thursday Morning Glow offensive in the third period for a big victory. Also, a superb performance by Goalie Jim, who stymied the enemy shooters, except for a fluke goal and one that one of our own defenseman (J.) deflected in.

With a win in the season finale, the Chilly Bombers elude the division basement and are slated to square off against the Snipers in the opening round of the playoffs. The Snipers have frosted the Chilly Bombers in two previous meetings, by scores of 5-0 and 8-2 in the most recent contest. But it is a new season, and I am confident we will make the necessary adjustments and emerge victorious Wednesday night.

Another note on the concluded season — two of our wins came against top division teams, so although we finished below the .500 mark, we still sported a competitive squad.

R2005FW Week 9: Snipers 8, Chilly Bombers 2

Hard fought battle, and a close game for two periods, but Chilly Bombers self destruct in the third period, and fall to the Snipers again, in an excellent opposing netminder performance.

Jersey Update II

Order was submitted Wednesday night and I have forwarded the art (the phantom logo) for the artist to render.

Looks like total cost will be a bit higher than originally anticipated — ~$30 per jersey.

Jersey Update

A screen shot of the order I am going to submit tonight, lest any last minute objections (besides changing some of the extra jersey numbers).

And I mocked up a sample jersey with the Phantom logo with purple or red.

Tentatively, here is what our roster looks like. Will need to get committments from folks in time to request additional skaters if needed. That is, if some of these names decide to pursue alternative recreational pasttimes instead of skating with us.

R2005F Playoff Round 1: Handy Skaters 7, Reapers 5

The perfect season. In reverse.

Reapers fall in a tough battle, but go down swinging. A shame that a tremendous offensive performance by Ron, who lit the lamp four times, was in vain. Steve S. nabbed the other Reaper goal. Our trips to the penalty box didn't help matters, and I was guilty of two infractions, one an unsportsmanlike call for arguing over a goal that appeared to be hit in with a high stick. Another goal was awarded to the Handy Skaters where it looked like it did not completely pass the goal line.

A hearty thank you to all those who hung in and showe up to play week after week, and persevered through a tough season that saw others quit or flake out on their teammates. Though the scoreboard and standings show defeat, I see many positive strides — offensive development, maturation of teamplay, improved skating, etc.… All intangible and tangible goods that can be carried forth to next season.

R2005F Week 10: Road Warriors 10, Reapers 0

Thus concludes the regular season for a dreary season that sees us go 0-10. Still, there is new life for the Reapers in the second season, the playoff tourney for second division dwellers — our playoff game is scheduled for 9:05 vs. the Handy Skaters, a team that we played twice and lost by one goal on each occasion.

I will write nothing more on our worse defeat ever (getting mercied in the second period) other than to express a hearty appreciation for those who showed up and persevered through a tough season. And thanks to Scott E. who suited up in net as Shaun did not show, despite phoning Steve S. earlier and informing him that he would be at the game and did not need a ride. Minus Ron (who did leave a message that he could not make the game) and Scott S. (out of town), we could only suit up five skaters and a goalie (who hurriedly had to dress and hadn't played in over two seasons), it was too much against a superior skating squad.

Adult Open Hockey Has Been Temporarily Cancelled

At Rollerplex on Friday nights.

10 teams in the co-ed league means the last game is scheduled at 10:40 PM, and consequently, open hockey is no longer feasible.

No word on where or if it will be moved to, according to Mike.

I wish I would have called or checked the Rollerplex web site before I ventured out last night.

R2005FW Week 7: Chilly Bombers 4, Piranha 2

In the best performance of the season thus far, Chilly Bombers strike a big victory, topping the Piranha 4-2. Chilly Bombers kept the Piranha scoreless for nearly the entire game, as a frantic all out offensive comeback effort in the last four minutes netted the opposition their two goals and averted a shutout. It was an all-out super defensive effort both in the defensive end and a relentless backchecking and forechecking effort that bottled up the Piranha attack. And on the offensive end, enough goals were tallied to provide a comfortable margin that carried the Bombers until the end of regulation.

The only minor downer on this excellent hockey night was not capitalizing on the empty net opportunity at the end of the game.

Chilly Bomber goals were talllied by Steve S. who deposited two into the enemy bin, James, and Ron I believe but am not certain.

R2005F Week 9: Handy Skaters 7, Reapers 6

In a game reminiscent of Wednesday's Chilly Bomber loss, Reapers fall in a close one where they should have reigned victorious. Instead, defensive breakdowns, again mainly in the second period, and a late penalty sealed our doom. Shaun was unable to participate in the contest, but our substitute goalie (from the Cluster Pucks) served solidly in a fill-in role.

On a positive note, the Reapers offensive output on Sunday was the Reaper high mark for the season — unfortunately, we yielded a seven spot, one more than tallied.

I'd post a link to the Rollerplex league stat boxscore page deal, but no game log has been published as of yet.
