Game #2 Report: Road Warriors 9, Vineyard 6

Game was not as close as the score indicates. Road Warriors (who appear to be the old Pullano's squad reconstituted) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, and maintained a comfortable lead for the duration of the game, until the third period when Vineyard tallied some goals to make the score deficit a respectable mark.

Vineyard goals were tallied by Matt, who earned a hat trick, Tim T. who scored twice, and Steve. I believe that was the goal breakdown, if I am incorrect, please alert me to the correction.

Rollerplex Open Hockey 5/27

Only 2 skaters show for Friday night open hockey, and no goalies.

So, lots of shooting and skating, but obviously, no real hockey game action.

I reckon you fools were out guzzling mugs or sipping spirits to kick-off the holiday weekend.

Hopefully, you all will have your game face on tonight!

Phoenix Roadrunners Return

Phoenix Roadrunners return to the Valley, though they move from the Icehouse on McDowell to the hockey abandoned American West Arena.

The quoted ticket prices are ridiculous, in my view, however. Really, the prices are greater than what I paid for my NHL Coyotes season tickets for three seasons. The same seats I originally purchased for $18 a seat (which raised to $20 in the last year at AWA), are going for $17.50 — for ECHL hockey mind you! That simply is an outrage, and these tickets are way overpriced for the level of play.

I was reminded that after the Phoenix Mustangs went defunct, the rink was ripped apart at Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the parts scattered, much of it to Tower Ice. It saddened me greatly, as the Icehouse on McDowell was a great place to watch hockey, with not a bad seat in the barn. And the prices for tickets and beer were most affordable. Fondly, I recall the crew that sat atop of the opposing goalie and did their best, powered by alcohol, to taunt the enemy netminder, as they all dressed in their comical garb, a tradition that failed to be brought over to Coyotes games.

Coyotes Lose Utah Grizzlies as AHL Affiliate

The NHL lockout lasted longer than the Grizzlies did.
As reported in the Tribune last month, Elmore is in negotiations to sell his AHL rights to the Florida Panthers who will move the team to Orlando next season paving the way for him to bring a Central Hockey League or East Coast Hockey League team to Salt Lake City.

The move didn't come as a surprise to the Coyotes, but with one year plus an option left on their deal, they aren't very happy about Elmore's move. The team will turn the matter over to its legal department, which might be able to prove damages now that the Coyotes are left hunting for a home for their prospects.

"Naturally, we are disappointed. We had a multi-year deal and David made a unilateral decision to end it," Coyotes general manager Mike Barnett said. 'We're left on our own to come up with something. We loved having the team that close, after having to go to Springfield (Mass.) in the past. It's the kind of setup we want to have.

The Coyotes have three options. They can attempt to buy an AHL team or sign a primary affiliation deal, they can share an affiliation as they did in the past with Tampa Bay (the Springfield Falcons), or they can place four or five prospects with several AHL teams.

Game #1 Report: Team A.M. 5, Vineyard Crusaders 4

Seesaw struggle, but the Crusaders go down in a close one.

A nip and tuck affair, peppered with physical play and some nasty stick work. Don took a double minor for a retalitory swipe at a cheap shot he was the recipient of. Due to a wicked slash, I have a nasty welt across the middle of my arm which, according to my wife, needs an application of antibiotic ointment.

Vineyard goals were tallied by Tim who cashed in twice, Matt and Scott.

Just returned from the rink, enjoying a cold frothy beverage after a hearty workout. Only six skaters but two goalies showed up, so folks got fatigued quickly. A shame that we could only do full rink three on three.

But I needed the workout.

First Game on Sunday at 7:15p vs. Team A.M.

Team A.M. finished in first place with a 8-2 record last season, ahead of Vineyard by 1 game, but they met the same fate as the Crusaders in the playoffs, exiting in the opening round.

The Scrappy Dogs square off against Phunk Junkies in the game that precedes ours. Hooligans and Git-R-Done return for the summer session also.

And it looks we'll have two new teams, Roadrunners and Road Warriors, that will replace Pullanos and another team from the spring season whose identity I cannot seem to recall.
