Player Quicktips Offense
Tips for forwards cut and pasted from a coach's manual on roller hockey:
- Always try to advance the puck forward into your opponent's end — pass ahead to a teammate
- When in doubt, shoot first, think later — take the shot eve if it's not a good one — follow your shot to the net and stop in front for the rebound
- 2nd forward in should charge the net for the rebound
- If you have a teammate with you on a scoring opportunity, shoot early so that one or both of you are still in front of the net for the rebound
- Never chase the puck into the corner into the corner in your own end, let your defense go get it
- Don't chase the puck behind the opponent's net if your teammate is already there
- Forecheck, don't give the opponents time to get organized
- Don't cherry pick — skate back into your defensive end when you lose possession of the puck — your defense needs your help to break out of your end
- Backcheck, help the defense out, cover the opponent's forwards 1st, then the opponent's defensemen
- Only one man after the puck at any time, everyone else should find an opponent to cover in our end or an open space to receive a pass in the opponent's end
- Stay spread out. Occupy at least two adjacent lanes. Don't get bunched up!
- Pass back to your defensemen, especially in the opponent's end
- Always keep moving (skate circles if necessary)
- Communicate with your teammates!
Next, I will post a list for defense (defensemen).
